Empire builder Micah Camden is at it again: Portland Monthly breaks the news that Camden has two new spots in the works, both slated for Southeast Portland. First the familiar: A second outpost of Camden's popular haute doughnut shop Blue Star Donuts will take over the SE Hawthorne space long home to the Fujin Chinese restaurant (which shuttered in December 2013).
The other is a brand-new concept for the Camden/Katie Poppe portfolio. Son of a Biscuit will debut on SE Division's recently vacated Pizzicato spot. PoMo reports the fried chicken restaurant is modeled after a "Southern-style hot chicken spot" serving whole birds with biscuits and other sides. (In his familiar Little Big Burger mold, the restaurant will offer a limited, chicken-only menu.) As Camden tells Kelly Clarke: "I'm no stranger to fried chicken. My mom was from Tennessee; my dad from Kentucky. I got this."
Son of a Biscuit will open later this spring; Blue Star Hawthorne as early as March. Updates as they become available.
