Confirmed last night over fried chicken and ale: Hoagie-crack dealers Tommy Habetz and Nick Wood of Bunk Sandwiches are hours away from signing a lease to Bunk Bar, a forthcoming 2,400 square foot bar/catering kitchen/Bunk location number that the duo will co-own with bartender/record producer/unofficial mayor of Portland Matt Brown.
Bunk Bar will nab a vacant corner space in the Water Avenue Commerce Center (1028 SE Water Avenue) directly across the street from Bruce Carey's Clarklewis and will also lease the soon-to-be vacated headquarters of Bakery Bar, which is consolidating its cake and coffee business into its new Hollywood location at NE 29th and Glisan. With extra square footage and a very much needed ventilation system that the always smoky original Bunk location lacks, Bunk Bar will add a catering business and a deep fryer. Hello oyster po' boys and sweetbreads. Matt Brown will man the bar five nights a week, and if you ask nicely, Brown will tell you how Nick Wood earned the nickname "BDIP."
