Extracto Coffee House will open a second location by the end of November, sharing a building with wine bar Tiga and Podnah's Pit BBQ near NE 15th and Prescott. With only 660 square feet, Extracto 2.0 will be lean, with a handful of seats and a mission to showcase Extracto's single-origin espresso and espresso blends with which the company has been tinkering since severing the Stumptown umbilical cord to roast its own in summer 2008.
Coffee geek bonus: Extracto on 15th has purchased a Seattle-made Synesso Hydra espresso machine, and all drip coffee will be brewed by the cup using the pour-over method, says Celeste Brady, who co-owns the three-year-old Extracto with husband Chris. Extracto is the latest in a wave of PDX cafes, including the recently opened Heart Roasters, the upcoming Sterling Coffee Roasters, and standby Ristretto Roasters, to roast in-house.
