Judy Blume Receives Cacao Chocolates, Finds God Is There

New, 1 comment

Joanna Miller is not only a local food writer (and noted sweets freak) she is also the co-creator of “Blumesday” an event (held both in Portland and Los Angeles) celebrating the work of seminal children and young adult fiction writer Judy Blume (Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Blubber, Forever...). Following those tributes Miller was invited—by Blume herself—to “A Night of Comedy with Judy Blume & Friends” presented by the National Coalition Against Censorship in New York City in late October. As a thank you gift to the author of Superfudge, Miller handpicked several fine artisan chocolates and salted caramels from downtown's Cacao and, with the help of Cacao owners, Jesse Manis, left, and Aubrey Lindley, mailed them off to Blume’s Florida home. Miller was a wee bit nervous about sending such a perishable gift to such a hot climate. But was thrilled when she received the following response from Blume:

Thanks so much for the beautiful (and it was!) box of chocolate goodies from your favorite shop in Portland. I can see why you like it - delicious! You are too sweet.
Fudge-a-mania, indeed.
