It's old news for Belmont-area boozehounds by now, but tipsters report that Circa 33, a "post-prohibition"-influenced spot by Joshua Johnston (the owner of NW's North 45 Pub), bowed a week ago in one-half of the space that once housed It's a Beautiful Pizza. The spot — next door to the also-new Hall of Records — has rotated through a couple possible concepts since it hit the market, including a restaurant called Cognito and Johnston's original bar concept, the unfortunately-named Outhouse. (Dodged a bullet there, dude.)
Circa's bar features a dozen taps, and the more upscale take on a bar menu leans "Influenced American" (with entrees like cioppino and chickpea stew); a specialized "smoked" section features ribs, cold smoked veggies, and a smoked burger. An official grand opening party officially kicks things off this Thursday, Oct. 24, at 4pm.
