Maybe Snooki and Sammi Sweetheart are in town to toast some East Coast Italian... food? Let's go with that! The "East Coast-inspired" Misto Cafe debuted in its 35-seat SE Belmont space last Wednesday with a menu focusing on Italian-American classics like stromboli, calzones, and sandwiches. "There's a lot of good pizza in Portland. We're going for simple, classic, East Coast Italian deli," says head chef Anthony DeGeorge. "Our main focus is something you can just grab and go, or you can sit down with your family and enjoy a quick meal."
Prior to launching Misto, DeGeorge spent two years cooking around Italy (he's also worked at Alba Osteria and most recently was opening sous chef at Pinot American Brasserie); and he credits Big Idea restaurant consultant Sean Herron, a Pennsylvania and Chicago native, for the "East Coast" concept, adding that his approach contributes the more traditional Italian vibe. Misto is open 11-9pm Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday brunch starting at 8am.
