In this edition of Carty AM EaterWire, a two carts transition for the winter, one makes things even colder:
SOUTHEAST: Just in time for the big chill, Cartopia favorite Whiffies Fried Pies debuted its ice cream menu over the weekend, which features flavors like horchata with walnuts, peach cinnamon, and malted buttermilk bourbon vanilla.
DIVISION/CLINTON: Just in time for the big chill (and to toast its new location at the D-Street Noshery), the ice creamery formerly known as Oregon Ice Works transitions into Oregon Soup Works, serving up soups (like ginger chicken) and grilled cheese sandwiches (like fried Nutella with salted fried plantains and caramelized honey) throughout the winter. Frozen treats return in the spring.
N. MISSISSIPPI: As promised, crack-cupcake baker Kir Jensen has temporarily shuttered the Sugar Cube, partly due to weather ickiness, partly due to an impending deadline for the first Sugar Cube cookbook. Frowny face.
