Liquor Laws

The Portland Mercury's Sarah Mirk reports on a surprising new plan to limit downtown alcohol sales, in an "attempt to curb street drinking." It's all about joining the awesome acronym VIBRANT PDX, or "Volunteering as Businesses to Reduce Alcohol Nuisances Together." Adorbs. Basic outlines of the plan would limit businesses from selling single containers, boxed wine, and big-ass bottles of cider. Word is most of the owners were very clear that they didn't sell to street drinkers anyway so no problem here, Officer, while people on the policy side are skeptical that this kind of thing can make, you know, the disease of alcoholism and its various ravages just go away.
