Writer William Bostwick takes a spin around Harpoon's Island Creek Oyster Stout, clarifies that it does not, in fact, taste like oysters, despite including them, something that makes you a little bit maybe so needy for that oyster taste that you start saying generally jackass-y foodie-type things like "'it's a little mineral-y' or 'it has just a hint of brine.'" As Bostwick, usually a design writer so you know he's got that aesthetic sensitivity, says, "food pairings are about balance, right? Stouts go well with oysters because they don't taste like them. You wouldn't make a Coke that tastes like a Big Mac." You wouldn't. But someone should try. [GQ]
