Buy Food, Help Haiti at Benefit Auction Thursday

Bid on gift certificates for dinners, wine tastings and cooking classes provided by about two dozen popular Portland restaurants at “Hands On for Haiti,” a food and art auction this Thursday in the Pearl District at the old Eddie Bauer space. The Jan. 12 earthquake may have faded from the front pages, but the need in Haiti still makes quibbling over First Thursday parking feeble. Besides, you'll be able to pick up a deal from such restaurants as Olympic Provisions, Clyde Common and Gruner, or consider the artwork produced by nearly 30 local artists. Attendants can buy $1 mini sandwiches crafted with care by local sandwich-smiths from Bunk, Meat Cheese Bread and Kenny and Zuke’s and $4 adult beverages. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door, at Eastmoreland Market (3616 S.E. Knapp St.) or online. All proceeds benefit Mercy Corps.
