Like Mother, Like Son

Byron Beck chats to waffle hound Jeanne Subotnick and her son, Matthew, about their brand-new Wicked Waffles cart up at the fast-growing Refuel Station North pod at Killingsworth and Greeley. Points for Subotnick's Shakers Cafe past, her six types of waffle batter, and her saying she wouldn't "open a new restaurant if you put an Uzi to my head." Serious points for Beck's asking the obvious of Matthew: "Why would a middle-age man agree to work with his mother in such a small space?" [The Oregonian]
