Garden State's Kevin Sandri had one hell of a weekend. Just a day after earning Ruth Reichl's stamp of approval, Sandri's Sicilian-inspired Garden State took home the coveted Carty Award at Willamette Week's third-annual Eat Mobile food cart festival. The "Best in Show" honor (which was determined by a panel of judges) comes with an "evil bobblehead trophy" to celebrate the cart's winning entry: bite-sized baguettes featuring grilled Alaskan cod, greens, and oranges.
Attendees also fell prey to the power of pie. Local food cart fanatics crowned Hawthorne and 12th's Whiffies fried pies the winner of the event's People's Choice award: further proof that beautiful things happen when sweet and savory alike hit the deep-fryer.
