Just six months after moving its awesome tank-like truck from NE 27th and Alberta to downtown, the baked potato cart Spud Locker announced on its Facebook page that it served its last spuds on Friday. Owners Myles Faulkner, Kathryn Howard, and Ian Mazie wrote in a farewell note online:
"So we had a dream, a dream to sell baked potatoes to the people of Portland and to convince hungry hoards of office workers to embrace the potato as a meal and not only as a side dish. We still have that vision. Unfortunately, we just don’t have the time. We are three friends who all have other careers and young children."
Fans of starchy goodness will mourn the cart's Battleship chili potato and Paul's spicy gravy. The silver lining? Portland's most bad-ass-looking food cart will live on; it's now available for rent by the owners.
