The Association of Food Journalists announced the "winners" (actually, they're just the nominees) of its 2010 Awards Competition today, and no local Portland names are on the list. (The West Coast in general didn't fare much better; its only reps are LA Weekly, which gets kudos in the "Best Food Blog" category, and the San Francisco Chronicle, which picked up noms for its food criticism and feature writing.)
So what gives? Eater National points out that entry into the competition is not free, which prevents some publications (like the New York Times) from entering due to ethical reasons. Is that the case with the Oregonian, Portland Mercury, Willamette Week, and Portland Monthly? Local food writers/editors — send us a tip.
