This just in (five minutes before the holiday weekend... way to almost bury that story, guys): Genoa and Accanto's David Anderson will rep Portland next week during a visit to the White House, where he'll take part in a South Lawn ceremony kicking off First Lady Michelle Obama's Chefs Move to Schools program. In a style similar to Jamie Oliver's food revolution, the initiative pairs local chefs with schools in their communities in order to foster a engaging relationship between kids and their food. Says Anderson of his nomination:
"I was lucky to grow up in Ketchikan, Alaska where an active lifestyle was the norm from an early age. My goal is to help our schools not only create healthy lunch programs, but to highlight physical activity as part of a daily nutritional regimen."
And Mrs. Obama gives her props: "We are going to need everyone’s time and talent to solve the childhood obesity epidemic and our nation’s chefs have tremendous power as leaders on this issue because of their deep knowledge of food and nutrition and their standing in the community. I want to thank them for joining the Let’s Move! Campaign."
