A Sunday Classic Wine Auction dinner at the storied (and recently reborn) Genoa Restaurant featured more than a proverbial orgy of food and wine — six of PDX's top chefs, all of whom had once spent time in the 38-year-old Genoa kitchen, returned to their former employer for a (working) reunion. Stuffing winos by preparing a course each were Cathy Whims (now of Nostrana), John Toboada (Navarre), Tommy Habetz (Bunk Sandwiches), Jerry Huisinga (Bar Mingo), Amelia Hard (In Good Taste), and of course, current executive chef David Anderson.
Front-of-house extraordinaire Tim Parsons reports a fun and happy reunion behind-the-scenes, offering up this video as proof (warning: Chefs talking about their dishes will create early-morning hunger pains). Chuckleworthy: Hard and Habetz's favorite Genoa memories both involve events that didn't actually happen in the restaurant; Huisinga affectionately calls the spot his "velvet noose" — "It didn't get me, but it made me who I am."
