The Pearl District's famously kid-friendly Sip & Kranz Cafe is under new ownership, and though it's still serving up coffee drinks, smoothies, and wine by the glass, plans are in the works to close up shop in just two weeks. Sip & Kranz's official website gives no hint to the change, but a trip to Cloud Seven Cafe's site contains the following missive:
We decided to stay open and operate as Sip & Kranz for a few weeks longer while all our furniture and decor elements are being being constructed off-site. This approach adds a bit of logistical complexity, but we’re up for the challenge. We can’t implement all the changes without closing for at least a little bit. So, on June 23rd, Sip & Kranz will close its doors. That will be the end of Sip & Kranz. During the 1 week closure it will be a mad rush to move all the old out, clean everything thoroughly, paint, update some of the electrical and move all the new furniture and decor modules in its place. Early July - if all goes as planned, July 1 - We will reopen our doors to welcome you at Cloud Seven Cafe.
New cafe owner Roger Ducloo describes the space as a "modern interpretation on the traditional Viennese coffee house," and writes on his blog that the inspiration for opening up shop was the closure of NW's Sydney’s Cafe.
