Local food scribe (and class act) Karen Brooks — who's been the subject of lots of spilled ink this year thanks to her unceremonious canning by the Oregonian and recent adoption by Portland Monthly — makes her PoMo food editor debut in the issue just hitting stands. Given the nature of monthly pubs, Frank Bruni BFF Mike Thelin still has the byline for August's main taste story, but Brooks culled together the food-heavy "63 Things To Do" package, which includes going vegan (at Dovetail Bakery), dining with strangers (think Simpatica), and sampling ethical charceuterie (Olympic Provisions, obvs). Welcome back, lady.
