Portland's getting some pie from a coupole out-of-state entrepreneurs. First up: American Flatbread, a farm-to-table take on pizza with franchises in Vermont and Virginia, will open its first west coast outpost in the Pearl District later this year. Per the website: "American Flatbread has found a new home in Portland, Oregon, in the newly renovated General Automotive Building at 411 NW Park Ave. We are working hard to begin baking summer 2010 for our North Park neighbors and the greater Portland community, accentuating the abundance of artisanal local meats, cheeses, produce and foraged foods on our wood-fired flatbread." All pizzas are fired in an old-school primitive earthen oven, and the spot's pro-sustainable ethos seems to be a good fit for foodies in this town. Anyone been to VT or VA? Let us know your thoughts.
And in a quick Via Tribuali update, the Seattle-based pizza purveyor's Portland outpost is still in the works, though a Tribuali rep was unable to dish any specifics other than "we cannot specify a date just yet" and "we will be there soon." K thanks.
