Green Mountain Coffee Roasters has had a reputation for being an environmentally friendly company since 1983, but recently 80% of its sales have consisted of "nonrecyclable, nonbiodegradable, single-use coffee pods" called K-Cups. Three billion of them in a year, which is like a lot! Solutions to the problem include not-there-yet biodegradable packaging, programs to recycle the pods, making the pods reusable, or simply using a thermos. [NYT via Eater]
