As you may have heard, Woodstock's local dive bar Lutz Tavern is closing today after 242 years in business (or 56. Whatever). Interesting fun fact: A 2008 Salon article identified Lutz as the site for PBR's revival as the hipster-swigging beverage of choice. "For years, Portland's bike messengers and skaters had slugged down Blitz, a low-cost local brew. After Blitz went out of business, Lutz filled its niche with $1 cans of Pabst. The beer was embraced not only for its cheapness, but also because hipsters could drink it without feeling they'd been coerced by a corporate message." Talk about a legacy. [Salon]
