Eugene's annual Oregon Truffle Festival celebrates the culinary delicacy in style, with a series of seminars, classes, and dinners toasting the fruiting fungi (this year, it fetes from January 28 to 31). But for a pre-fest preview, the Portland Culinary Alliance is sponsoring an ol'-fashioned field trip to the truffle-happy Joel Palmer House in Dayton, where chefs Jack and Chris Czarnecki "demystify" the truffle with an educational seminar and OMG buffet of truffle-laced dishes.
The PCA trip heads out this Sunday, January 9 — registration required by Jan. 7. And for the splurgers, tickets to the Truffle Festival's official "Grand Truffle Dinner" — featuring courses by Genoa's David Anderson, Nostrana's Cathy Whims, Pino Posteraro (of Vancouver BC's Cioppino’s Mediterranean Grill & Enoteca), and Holly Smith (of Kirkland, WA's Cafe Juanita) — are still available, at $175 a pop.
