The Portland Farmers Market isn't going into hibernation this year: Organizers announced that in 2012, a "Winter Market" will pop-up in Shemanski Park during the months of January and February, marking the first time the farmers market will remain open all year. According to executive director Trudy Toliver, organizers are expecting 45 vendors for the Saturday-only market, and tents and "covered seating areas" will be erected to protect shoppers from the Portland winter weather. PFM is accepting vendor applications now; the full list of participating vendors will be available to the public in November. [EaterWire]
