Sadface: PoMo reports this afternoon that the pioneering Italian-influenced, Jersey-leaning food cart Garden State will close for good this Sunday, just a week after owner Kevin Sandri put the cart up for sale online. The cart will switch hands (under an entirely new, un-Sandri-affiliated concept) after service this Sunday; Burgatroyd, a neighboring burger-focused, Garden State spinoff cart, will remain in operation under the guidance of longtime employee Jamie Anderson.

When Eater reached out last week, Sandri remained mum on future plans, though Karen Brooks drops a hint: "Sandri's new (as yet unannounced) day job involves food but not restaurants, and will allow him to spend quality time with his family." And later: "His new project, according to Sandri, could swim or sink, and maybe, come spring, he'll be back." In the interview, Sandri also reminisces about Garden State's national profile, the cart's critical acclaim, and the sustainability of Portland's cart scene: "Food carts are like restaurants. It's all about the new buzz."
