Pok Pok empire builder Andy Ricker famously makes annual trips to Thailand to pick up new recipes and culinary tricks. But during a recent excursion to Taiwan (Ricker's second visit to the Asian nation), the chef kept a "postcard" travelogue for Portland Monthly. Among the trip highlights: A visit to a themed restaurant called Modern Toilet, tastes of Da Chang Bao Xiao Chang ("sausage-in-a-sausage" street food), and a fancy food show that featured "a lot of injection-molded and aspic-covered dishes."
