Tanuki 2.0 Opening Tonight in Montavilla

Tanuki returns. Chef Janis Martin's "no sushi/no kids" izakaya, which left its NW 21st digs earlier this year for a short flirtation with NE MLK's old Belly spot, has re-surfaced in a much-more spacious SE Stark space that's ready to swing its doors open tonight. And though the increased square footage hasn't translated into more seating, Nuki 2.0 flaunts two exploitation era pinball machines, a seated waiting area (streaming Japanese television), and a retail case featuring cold to-go items like kimchi, soju mustard, pickles, banchan, sauces, and the piece de resistance: kimchi, bacon, and cheese-stuffed croissants. Also making its debut: A full liquor license, which Martin will use to serve up cocktails like the "If Drinkin Don't Kill Me," which features pumpkin-infused Bulliet Rye, Punt e Mes (an Italian vermouth), Frangelico, and plum bitters.

Hours to start will be Wednesday through Saturday, 5-10pm, though are subject to change depending on demand.
