Before the city removed downtown's Occupy Portland camp in mid-November, Portland Monthly visited the volunteer-run communal kitchen tasked with feeding protesters (an impressive) five meals a day. Said one of the volunteers about the kitchen's mission statement: "There’s a million different ways to connect with people. One of them is putting out healthy food every day. When you're standing in the food line, it doesn't matter how much money you have in your pocket, you're human. And that's an awesome thing." [Portland Monthly]
