Major sadface: Chef/owner Matthew Zack, an alumni of Walla Walla's 26Brix and Colville St. Patisserie, has shuttered his E. Burnside sweet shop Alder Pastry and Dessert after 10 months in business. Zack announced the closure on Monday, and tells Eater that "right now I don't have any definite plans. I really enjoy what I do, so I'm sure I'll get back into it one way or another."

Zack's shop had accumulated a following for its uniquely flavored gelatos (Szechuan peppercorn) and Breton speciality kouign amann. More information — about Zack's future plans, the space's new tenants, the ush — as it becomes available.
