As we near the end of the year, here come the flood of arbitrary lists that name the "Year's Best" and take a stab at naming next year's "food trends." But hey, according to the James Beard Foundation's 2012 list of the latter, looks like Portland's a pretty trendy city. Under its Thai Revival category, Andy Ricker's JBF Award for Best Chef Northwest gave the cuisine "its first PR boost," only bolstered by Ricker's upcoming Pok Poks in NYC. Also big in 2012: "Seeing kitchens that also function as restaurants" a la Naomi Pomeroy's Beast. [JBF blog]
