The Oregonian's Michael Zusman has the scoop on a big-name chef's new project: Autentica chef/owner Oswaldo Bibiano, a semifinalist for 2010's James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest, will open a second venture, named Mextiza, sometime this summer.
The new spot will sit on N. Killingsworth in the Overlook neighborhood and feature cuisine influenced by a "mixed cultural heritage," including specialities from Toluca, Sinaloa, and Hidalgo. Early plans are to be open seven days a week, featuring lunch and dinner service Monday through Saturday and brunch on Sundays. Projected opening date: July 2011.
