In need of a mini, meat-filled vacation? Take a cue from Portland chefs Andy Ricker (Pok Pok), Rodney Muirhead (Podnah's Pit), and Matt Lightner (Castagna), who are heading up a PDX contingent at Austin's huge Hill Country Wine and Food Festival (from March 31 to April 3). Portland's own jet-setting Mike Thelin helped organize the event — one of the largest culinary celebrations in southern US — and some of Portland's best will collaborate with top Austin chefs for a "Live Fire! Beef Supremacy Over Flames" seminar (featuring Nicky USA meat, cooking up by Ricker, Muirhead, and New York's Cochon 555 champ Brad Farmerie). Other weekend events include a burger seminar by Josh Ozersky and a wine dinner featuring Kyle MacLachlan's Pursued By Bear and Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo of LA's Animal.
