Compote Cafe & Bakery Makes Its Debut on SE Clinton

Is it us, or is Portland getting sweet on baked goods these days? Over the weekend, the doors to Clinton's adorable Compote Bakery swung open, following in the footsteps of recent bakery openings like Alder Pastry and Dessert and new next-door neighbor St. Jack Patisserie.

The bakery, owned by Shana Lane-Block, serves breakfast and lunch all day (options include whole-wheat biscuits with cream and compote; poached egg "stacks" featuring greens or gravlax over shredded hash browns; and traditional sandwiches like tuna melts and egg salad). Everything on the menu (including egg creams, sodas, and cultured dairy) is made from scratch; baked goods and pastries vary daily and are seasonally inspired (recent examples included sweet potato pecan muffins); single-brew drip coffee's provided by Ristretto Roasters.

Compote is now open Monday-Saturday, from 8am to 4pm.
