Portland is home to a lot of restaurants, and though certain spots generate all the buzz, there are tons of hidden gems that the majority of Portlanders — ourselves included — just aren't unearthing. To help guide us to these potential discoveries, we've enlisted some of our city's many food luminaries to share with us their under-the-radar recommendations for a weekly feature dubbed Dining Confidential.

For most of the week, James Beard nominee Cathy Whims is immersed in the authentic Italian regional food (and no doubt a bit of Italian wine) that she and her team turn out at Nostrana — pasta, gnocchi, pizzas, tagliata, budino. So when Whims eats someone else's wood-fired food, she likes to go fresh, light and nutritious:
"We love going to Tastebud. We can eat really healthy and feel really virtuous. Mark Doxtader is one of our former employees and we love him. Everything he makes is fresh from the farmers market, too. David (my husband) could eat chicken three times a day, seven days a week, so we go to Tastedbud for their Wednesday chicken dinner night. It's the food you crave after eating restaurant food all week."
