Not Googly Enough

Just 10 days after its beta launch in Portland, Google's discount deal site Google Offers is already collecting its share of critics: One writer gives the launch "an A- for effort, but a C for originality," noting that despite Google's past innovations, its Groupon knock off provides "no meaningful improvements over what's out there." Its fraud prevention system is also lacking: "For the offer that I redeemed at Floyd’s Coffee, for instance, the cashier manually copied the coupon number onto a piece of paper. It would be easy for someone to print out dozens and redeem them because they are not validated in real time." [TechCrunch]
