Major news confirmed by PoMo's Karen "More Scoops than an Ice Cream Cone" Brooks: Nostrana's Cathy Whims is opening another restaurant. Dubbed Oven & Shaker, the pizza-heavy concept will take over the recently-vacated Bella Gioia space in the Pearl District, with plans to remodel the site into a 80-90 seat restaurant complete with wood-fired oven. According to Brooks, the casual spot derives its name from a concept collaboration with bartender (and Aviation Gin co-founder) Ryan Magarian: Expect Whims to tailor a food menu that reflects Magarian's inventive cocktail creations.
The restaurant marks yet-another project by the soon-to-be-ubiquitous ChefStable, run by local empire builder Kurt Huffman. In addition to the recent successful opening of St. Jack, Huffman has at least three other projects currently in the works: Kask bar with Chris Israel, the casual Japanese spot Wafuu with Trent Pierce, and a brick-and-mortar concept with Nong's. More details about Oven & Shaker as they become available, but a projected opening date has already been set: the end of August.
