In a mash-up of Portland stereotypes (sustainable living meets beer!), the seventh annual North American Organic Brewers Festival is scheduled for next weekend (June 24-26) in Overlook Park, with the goal of being "the most earth-friendly beer festival in North America." (Among the eco-friendly touches: on-site electricity comes from solar and biodiesel generators; composting stations are available for food waste.) Tipplers can expect pours of more than 50 different organic beers (into compostable cornstarch glasses, obvs) from breweries up and down the west coast, all without the chemicals and fertilizers that are normally used when growing barley and hops.
