Another summer weekend, another summer beer festival: This Saturday, it's the debut of the first-annual Portland Fruit Beer Festival, which will feature pours of 30 fruity beers by more than 15 participating breweries. Among the more unique offerings: Oakshire, Upright, and Breakside breweries will debut a series of brews aged in gin barrels (and flavored with blackberries, strawberries, and blackberry and juniper berry, respectively); Coalition Brewing whips up a "Wheat from the Tree" brew with pears and grape wine, while Hopworks infuses chili peppers into its Seven Grain Stout. The event, this Saturday and Sunday at Burnside Brewing, will also feature Fifty Licks ice cream and Tastebud pizzas to fill up boozers' bellies. [EaterWire]
