After a devastating Fourth of July fire that put its building out of commission for at least a month, the chefs behind NE Alberta's Aviary — Sarah Pliner, Jasper Shen, and Kat Whitehead — will be borrowing the kitchen at Andy Ricker's Old Town spot Ping a few times a week. Starting Sunday, July 31, Aviary will set up for dinner service at Ping every Sunday and Monday night, with a special kick-off dinner, scheduled for Monday, July 18, featuring a special five-course prix menu.
And other chefs are also coming out of the woodwork to help the Aviary crew. On Monday, July 25, NE Dekum's Firehouse will hold a fundraiser on Aviary's behalf, with four wood-fired courses (plus Aviary's beer ice cream) available for the suggested donation of $35. Reservations to Aviary's dinners at Ping are recommended; for more information about the Firehouse benefit, call (503) 954-1702.
