Gruner chef (and James Beard nominee) Chris Israel has had bar food on the brain lately: In addition to the impending opening of "the Gruner bar" Kask (it's scheduled to debut any day now), the E. Burnside music venue/late-late-night hotspot Doug Fir Lounge has announced that Israel is the hired gun behind a complete menu revamp, launching now.
In a collaboration with Doug Fir head chef Abigail McBride, Israel's menu represents "a more straightforward interpretation of classic American comfort food/northwest favorites," and features items like fried Willapa Bay oysters, wild mushroom farro risotto, buttermilk fried chicken, and an improved take on the Doug Fir burger.
