As Eater rolls into the weekend, some more food-fest events to Sharpie on the calendar:
WATERFRONT: The annual waterfront Bite of Oregon is kind of like a state fair with marginally fewer deep-fried things, and this year, it's scheduled to take over Tom McCall Waterfront Park from August 12-14 (that's next weekend). Among the highlights: In addition to food available at stands from visiting restaurants and local food cart favorites, throughout the weekend, chefs like H50 Bistro's Nick Yanes, the Original's Ryan Bleibtrey, and 23 Hoyt's Amber Webster will stop by the Gerry Frank's Oregon's Chefs Table to share bites. On Saturday, Genoa's David Anderson will try to defend his title as the Bite's "Iron Chef" during a cooking competition. More info about the weekend available here. [EaterWire]
NORTHEAST: On Saturday, August 20, Portland Monthly and Fred Meyer will team up for an annual Beer 'n' Burgers bash that benefits Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon. During the outdoor street party, guests can taste sliders from seven local pubs, paired (or not) with tastes of beer from 10 local breweries. The $17 donation is inclusive of food and drink; for non-tipplers, access to the slider goodness will set you back just $12. Tickets available here. [PoMo]
BUCKMAN: In celebration of Italy's annual Il Palio horse race, Nostrana's Cathy Whims turns her restaurant parking lot into a racetrack for Palio di Portland, an outdoor lunch with the built-in entertainment of watching grown adults run around a patio with horse-headed brooms. Starting at noon on Sunday, August 21, Whims will serve up a Siena-inspired buffet, and races — with prizes awarded to the victors — beginning at 1:30pm. Should it help, the $30 reservation includes food and two glasses of wine — bump it up $10 and get unlimited Prosecco. Reservations available by calling the restaurant. [EaterWire]
