Head's up to those with frozen strawberries in their freezers: According to the Oregon Public Health Department, 16 people have been sickened by e. coli — one case was fatal — stemming from strawberries grown on Washington County's Jaquith Strawberry Farm. Because the outbreak is ongoing and Jaquith sells to others who distribute at local farmer's markets and farm stands, the Health Dept. advises that any unmarked strawberries purchased from these sources and dating from the end of July should be thrown out. Strawberries purchased after August 1, or any berries from Jaquith Strawberry Farm's U-pick field, are safe. [OregonLive]
