Seattle sure thinks so! The recent "we're moving to Seattle" announcement by SE Belmont cart Creme de la Creme has buzz building amongst our neighbors to the north, with Seattle Met's Christopher Werner wondering if the French bus's move represents "the start of something" larger.
Back in August, Werner reported that Seattle's newly enacted food cart legislation had drawn the attention of some Portland cart owners: At the time, Gary Johnson, of Seattle's Department of Planning and Development, said that "he does expect a surge in mobile operators — including some from our neighbors to the south," Seattle Met reported. "Johnson says last weekend he attended the National Street Food Conference in San Francisco. The gossip there: Stumptown four-wheelers are planning to park kitchens in Seattle. He didn't have any specific names."
Indeed, Creme co-owner Bianca Benson told Werner this morning that Seattle’s newly relaxed regulations prompted the move. Hear buzz about others heading up I-5? Holler.
