Mio Gelato is firing things up. In a media release, Mio founder/president Bob Lightman, who opened the first Mio in the Pearl in 2003, announced plans to change the gelato shops into wood-burning oven restaurants called del Forno. On the menu: breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
"Del Forno is a place to gather in the morning for great coffee, pastries and frittata. At lunch stop in, or take out our authentic Neapolitan pizza, and array of house-crafted sandwiches, salads and hot dishes from our oven. After work, drop by for a light bite and glass of wine or a great local beer. At dinner enjoy our pizza and satisfying regional Italian specialties from our oven, or just linger until late at our wine bar. And of course, del Forno will continue to offer Mio Gelato, Portland’s favorite Italian ice cream."
Mio Gelato currently operates three locations in Portland — in the Pearl, on NW 23rd, and in Bridgeport Village. The Pearl location will be the first to flaunt the Del Forno name (with opening scheduled for December); as part of the Bamboo Sushi renovation to the building, the NW 23rd location will temporarily shutter in October and re-open at a time TBD.
