Coffee Wars

Heads up to our barista friends up in Seattle: Y'all got schooled. Portland baristas swept this weekend's NW Regional Barista Competition and Brewers Cup (which yes, is a real thing that sends its winners to the national U.S. Barista Championship). Coava Coffee's Devin Chapman took first place in both the Barista Competition and Brewers Cup — and Portland managed to sweep the former category, with shotmakers from Stumptown, Barista (x2), Coava, and Sterling taking the top six places. Chapman will now rep the NW in the national competition — which will be held here in Portland, as it turns out, on April 18 and 19. [EaterWire]
