Major food cart news for Central Eastsiders: The Oregonian reports that a new food cart pod dubbed the Row, organized by Potato Champion owner Mike McKinnon, will soon debut in the burgeoning "Produce Row" district at SE 2nd Avenue and SE Oak Street. And the pod is already populated with familiar names, including several members of SE Hawthorne's Cartopia pod: In addition to second locations of Potato Champion and Pyro Pizza, KOi Fusion will permanently park a cart, and Whiffies Fried Pies promises to debut a new concept in the space. (The only hint thus far comes courtesy this Facebook update, which announces "Working on a very special vegan dish for the new project. The name is going to be difficult to swallow but it's so delicious you're gonna have to try it.")
The carts join uber-popular spot Big-Ass Sandwiches, which announced its impending move earlier this summer. Per the O, the Row plans to add an outdoor cocktail bar early next year, with hopes to attract a late-night crowd come spring. The Row's projected opening: October 26.
