The Pearl's Asian fusion spot Kin will permanently close its doors today, after two-and-a-half years in business. Chef/owner Kevin Shikami — a Chicago transplant and former Food & Wine Best New Chef winner — tells Eater that the shutter comes as a result of an upcoming family move to Hawaii ("If you're going to leave beautiful Portland, I guess Hawaii will do," he says). The final dinner service is scheduled for tonight, Thursday, October 11.
Since opening in spring 2010, Kin enjoyed the odd distinction of being a critical favorite (the Oregonian's David Sarasohn give it a glowing review in December '10), while remaining largely under-the-radar. Last call for steamed buns, everyone.
