After five years in business, SE Knapp's neighborhood market, deli, and wine shop Eastmoreland Market & Kitchen will permanently shutter at the end of the month. Co-owners Patrick and Colleen Mendola announced the abrupt closure in a heartfelt Facebook post, writing that "this news comes as a huge shock... For the last week we have been trying to make sense of this extremely devastating situation and without airing dirty laundry, we are going to take the high road and just inform you that we have no choice." Moving forward, the Mendolas plan on operating business as usual for the next three days, and "will be making our sandwiches for those of you that love them until Saturday (October 20)." The market will also begin "liquidating" all stock, from pantry items to frozen soups.
The Mendolas, who owned and operated NW 21st's Tuscany Grill for more than a decade, revamped the former Eastmoreland Grocery space and debuted the muffaletta-laden spot in January 2008.
Their closing post promises, "We will be back. Not at this location, but somewhere, soon."
