The NW Glisan space once home to the recently shuttered Kin already has a new tenant: Farmers market favorite Verde Cocina will open its second brick-and-mortar restaurant in the space that once also housed Holden's Bistro. Verde Cocina, a market-influenced Mexican spot, currently operates a popular stand at the PSU Saturday Farmers Market and a cafe in Hillsdale, though co-owner Anna Garnica says the new Pearl restaurant will "feel a little different," with most aspects of Kin's design remaining the same.
According to Garnia, the new restaurant happens to coincide with the debut of an expanded menu at Verde Cocina's Hillsdale location. "Some of our regular specials are going to become permanent items, like chile relleno and carne asada, chicken and adobo, those will all become permanent on the menu," Garnica says. "We might refine some of [chef Noe Garnica's] dishes a little bit... [but] I wouldn't expect many surprises." The Pearl location, however, will cater to the neighborhood's lunch crowds, with midday service offering salads and several grab-and-go options. Verde Cocina Pearl plans to open "in the next few weeks."
