Lauretta Jean's pies have hit the east side. Baker/owner Kate McMillen has opened her second outpost of Lauretta Jean's in the SE Division space recently vacated by Pix Patisserie, offering a proper dining space/cafe atmosphere (a departure from LJ's small, mostly take-out shop on downtown's transit mall). In addition to pie, the new Lauretta Jean's offers a menu of breakfast pastries (apricot almond scones, biscuits with jam and butter), breakfast sandwiches, and lunch options (like soups, salads, quiches, and savory hand pies in flavors like ham-and-cheese, caramelized onion and blue cheese).
Lauretta Jean's, which began as a stall at the Portland Farmer's Market, opened its mini brick-and-mortar on SW Pine last autumn, sharing the space with Cafe Velo. Lauretta Jean's SE outpost is open now; hours of operation: 7a.m. to 10p.m., daily.
