More news from the burgeoning West End: Cafe/artisan food market Cheryl's on 12th, situated across SW Washington from the former Corazon/upcoming Lardo space, officially swung its doors open late last week, offering "New American" comfort food, morning pastries, and desserts by in-house baker Kristina Montaine (an alum of Hollywood's Rosebud Cakes and LA's Måni's on Fairfax). The 40-seat cafe offers breakfast, lunch, and dinner service, with a menu featuring salads (from Nicoise to a Thai chicken), sandwiches (rosemary-maple chicken with grilled pear; a vegan pumpkin sweet potato spread with tempeh), and hot food options like macaroni and cheese and lasagna. On weekends, the normally counter service-only space switches to full table service for Saturday and Sunday brunch crowds.
The marketplace, meanwhile, offers owner Cheryl Casey's "globally minded" selection of everything from pasta sauce to chocolate to pickles, with products ranging from Cowgirl Creamery cheese to Olympic Provisions meats. According to Casey, the plan is to find a balance between local and global products that fit the "European-marketplace" feel. Cheryl's hours of operation: Monday-Thursday, 7am to 8pm; Friday and Saturday, 8am-10pm; Sunday, 8am-4pm.
